Annual event aims to spotlight diversity and inclusion

The region's largest event designed to boost diversity and inclusion in the workplace is set to return next week.

The Fifth Third Bank Diversity Leadership Symposium will be held at the Duke Energy Convention Center 8 a.m.-noon Dec. 15. The event will feature a keynote from Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, who chairs the Congressional Black Caucus.

"As leaders we have the responsibility to host critical conversations and drive the actions that are needed to create measurable change regarding inclusion and diversity in our region," Stephanie Smith, Fifth Third's chief inclusion and diversity officer, said in a statement. "The leadership symposium will provide an opportunity for all of us to openly discuss and foster solutions that will be fundamental to moving our communities forward."

Other featured speakers include:

  • Megan Mitchell, news anchor, WLWT News 5; Tik Tok influencer with 1.7 million followers focused on LGBTQ representation in the media
  • Mel Gravely, CEO & chairman, TriVersity Construction; author of "Dear White Friend: The Realities of Race, the Power of Relationships and Our Path to Equity"
  • Rico Grant, owner, Gallery at Gumbo

Mayor-elect Aftab Pureval is also slated to speak.
