Congresswoman Beatty Touts Importance of Diversity and Inclusion During National Disability Employment Awareness Month

October 25, 2019
Announcements

For over 70 years, America has recognized October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. A lifelong advocate of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement to mark the occasion:

"Workplace protections for people with disabilities have come a long way since Congress first recognized their significant contributions in 1945, most notably with the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990. But there is still much work to be done. In 2018, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities was more than twice that of people without disabilities. This month and every month, it is important that we look past perceived disabilities in and out of the office because a diverse workplace works better for everyone."
