Congresswoman Beatty Recognizes the Importance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a month-long initiative aimed at increasing awareness around breast cancer prevention, detection and treatment. As a strong supporter of women's health and member of the Democratic Women's Working Group, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

"Did you know an astounding one in eight American women will develop breast cancer over the course of their lifetime? It is important to know that detecting and treating breast cancer early on can be done by taking immediate action, including getting regular mammograms if you are over 50-years old, talking with your doctor, and conducting self-examinations. Ultimately, however, the universal goal is to find a cure and prevent breast cancer altogether. To that end, I am fighting hard in Congress to increase funding for federal agencies like the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute—as well as non-governmental organizations committed to finding a cure."

During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, be sure to join the conversation online and share your own story by using: #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, #BCAM, #BCAM2018, and #FindTheCure.
