Congresswoman Beatty Recognizes National Minority Health Month
April is National Minority Health Month. Adding her voice with stakeholders raising awareness on the ongoing need to eliminate health disparities that continue to affect African-Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) stated:
"It is unacceptable that still today, African-Americans, Latinos, Asian-Americans and other people of color face higher rates of certain cancers, illnesses and diseases. For example: African-American men are twice as likely to die from prostate cancer than white men, and the risk of developing heart disease for African-Americans is also significantly higher. Congress must do everything in its power to better understand and reduce the health disparities that exist for African-Americans and other minority groups. We cannot rest until each and every American has equal access and opportunity to high-quality, affordable healthcare."
