Congresswoman Beatty Recognizes National Mental Health Awareness Month

Annual observance raises greater awareness of mental illness, and encourages more people to seek the help they may need.

May marks National Mental Health Awareness Month, a nationwide initiative to raise awareness and to help fight the stigma around mental health conditions. As a strong advocate for mental health, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-3) issued the following statement:

"Currently, 44 million Americans experience a mental health condition each year," Beatty said. "That means each of us is likely to know someone living with mental illness." Beatty continued, "Unfortunately, some choose to remain silent or live in fear because of the stigma associated with mental illness. All of us can and must do more to raise awareness, and to help guide individuals toward available resources. People need to always know it is okay to ask for help."

All month long, Beatty will be sharing helpful mental health resources and information, so please be sure to visit the Congresswoman's Facebook and Twitter often, and show your support and/or share your personal experience online by using the hashtags: #MHM2016 and #EndStigma.
