Congresswoman Beatty Recognizes Mental Health Month

Annual observance raises greater awareness of mental illness and encourages greater access to services and resources

May marks Mental Health Month, a nationwide initiative to raise awareness and erase the stigma surrounding mental health conditions. As a strong advocate for mental health, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-3) issued the following statement:

"In the U.S., 44 million people experience a mental health condition each year, and one in five adults will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime. That means each of us likely know or will know someone living with mental illness. Yet, still today, far too many people choose to remain silent or live in fear because of the stigma associated with mental illness. People need to always know it is okay to ask for help. That is why I urge my constituents, fellow Ohioans and Americans to speak out, raise awareness and help connect individuals with helpful resources."
