Congresswoman Beatty Celebrates National School Breakfast Week
This year March 4-8 is National School Breakfast Week (NSBW), a weeklong celebration of the federal School Breakfast Program. Created in 1966, the School Breakfast Program provides more than 13 million low-income students with free or reduced-cost breakfasts.
"It is impossible to learn in the classroom if you go to school hungry, and thanks to the School Breakfast Program some 13 million students do not have to," Beatty said. "I commend the tremendous work of the School Nutrition Association and will continue to stand with them and other school nutrition stakeholders in ensuring that every student can start the school day on the right foot."
NSBW is organized by the School Nutrition Association, a national nonprofit representing more than 58,000 members who provide high-quality, low-cost meals to students across the country.
