Congresswoman Beatty Celebrates Importance of National HBCU Week

This week, September 16- September 23, 2018, is National Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Week. For more than a century, HBCUs have provided an affordable, high-quality education to countless students of color. In recognition of National HBCU Week, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

"Today, there are more than 100 HBCUs located in 19 states, D.C. and the Virgin Islands, serving over 250,000 students and helping them achieve success in and outside the classroom. As a proud HBCU graduate of Central State University, I understand firsthand the positive impact HBCUs play in the lives of students, their parents, alumni, and surrounding community. That is why this week, and all year long, I join HBCU students, faculty, parents, and all Americans in celebrating HBCUs' rich history of encouraging and empowering all students to become the leaders of today and the future."

During National HBCU Week, be sure to join the conversation online by using: #HBCUWeek, #HBCUPride, #iLoveMyHBCU, and #HBCUMadness.
