Bill includes $1 billion to combat opioid and heroin abuse among other provisions
On November 30, 2016, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the 21st Century Cures Act, H.R. 34, by a vote of 392-26. In response, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) said,
“I am proud to support the 21st Century Cures Act, along with the overwhelming majority of my Democratic and Republican colleagues. The bill dedicates billions in federal funds to invest in groundbreaking medical research, cancer research and prevention; improve mental health treatment; combat our nation’s opioid epidemic; and modernize the prescription drug approval process. This is a major, bipartisan victory that will help our country continue to address important public health challenges.”
The 21st Century Cures Act now awaits further consideration in the U.S. Senate.
