Beatty Statement on the 81st Anniversary of Social Security

Today is the 81st anniversary of Social Security being signed into law by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. To mark the occasion, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

“Social Security is one of the most successful and popular federal programs in United States history,” Beatty said. “Since 1935, tens of millions of older Americans have relied on Social Security to ensure a more financially-secure future. Social Security has lifted countless senior citizens out of poverty and provided financial security their families, as well as persons with disabilities.” Beatty concluded, “I will not support any proposal that harms Social Security; rather, I will do everything in my power to strengthen Social Security for today’s seniors and generations to come.”
