Beatty Statement on National Newborn Screening Awareness Month

September is National Newborn Screening Awareness Month, a month-long initiative dedicated to raising awareness about newborn screening and infant health. In response, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (D-OH3) issued the following statement:

"Unfortunately, Central Ohio has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the country; and while progress has been made, more still needs to be done to ensure every child can celebrate life's many milestones. Getting a newborn screening is key, so I urge all families – especially new moms and dads to make sure they have their child tested. "

Since coming to Congress, Congresswoman Beatty has worked tirelessly with local, state and federal officials to address Central Ohio's infant mortality crisis. In fact, in 2014, Beatty's efforts provided critical to securing nearly $4million in federal funds, to combat infant mortality in Central Ohio.

Newborn Screening Awareness Month is organized by Baby's First Test. For more information on National New Born Screening Awareness Month and newborn screening, please visit Baby's First Test website, and do not forget to join the conversation online by using #NBS17.
