Beatty Recognizes Significance of Equal Pay Day
April 2, 2019 is Equal Pay Day, a day that represents when women's wages finally equal men's wages from the previous year. To mark Equal Pay Day, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:
"It is totally unacceptable—and flies in the face of the guarantee that ‘all men and women are created equal'— that still today a woman earns 81 cents for every dollar a man makes preforming the exact same job. Even worse, Black women earn only 61 cents and Latinas earn merely 53 cents. If we do nothing, it will take at least until 2152 to achieve pay equity. We cannot wait that long. That is why I proudly joined a bipartisan coalition in the House just last week to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act. I call on my Senate colleagues to do the same. It's time to secure equal pay for equal work because when women succeed, America succeeds."
