Beatty Recognizes Equal Pay Day

Women earn only 80 cents for every dollar earned by men

April 4, 2017 is Equal Pay Day, a day that represents when women's wages finally equal men's wages from the previous year. To mark Equal Pay Day, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

"It is completely unacceptable that women earn, on average, only 80 cents for every dollar a man makes. Worse still, this disparity is even greater for women of color, as Black women and Hispanic women earn only 65 cents and 61 cents, respectively, for every dollar a man makes in Ohio. If current trends continue, men and women's pay will not reach parity until 2152. We simply cannot wait another 100+ years to receive equal pay for equal work; the time to act is now. That is why, this Equal Pay Day, let us once and for all close the gender pay gap by passing the Paycheck Fairness Act, because we all know that when women succeed, America succeeds."
