Beatty Marks American Heart Month

Every February, our country celebrates American Heart Month, a month-long initiative to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease—the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Adding her voice to the many lawmakers, stakeholders, nonprofits and individuals recognizing American Heart Month, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

"Every minute, someone will die from a heart-disease-related health event. However, one's risk of cardiovascular disease can be greatly reduced by making simple, heart-healthy life changes. That is why as Co-Chair of the Congressional Heart and Stroke Coalition, I am continuing to fight hard in Congress to ensure that more Americans know the signs, symptoms and risk factors of heart disease, and I am working with Republicans and Democrats in Congress to increase funding for heart disease awareness, research, treatment and prevention. This month, and all year long, I urge Ohioans and Americans everywhere to join me in spreading the word to help save more lives."

In Congress, Beatty has been an outspoken champion in the fight against cardiovascular disease. As a stroke survivor, Beatty has pushed for more funding and worked tirelessly to improve awareness and public outreach on heart disease and stroke.
