Beatty Emphasizes Civility and Respect During National Bullying Prevention Month

Announcements

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a month-long awareness campaign to encourage more respect in the classroom and online, as well as to emphasize the importance of creating a positive school climate for all students. As founder and co-chair of the Congressional Civility and Respect Caucus, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement in observance:

"While school and the Internet can be immense sources of good, they are all too often the site of bullying and harassment for many young people. It is important that we teach children the importance of kindness, sympathy, and understanding at a young age so that they can be prepared to stand up to bullying when they see it. All of us have a role to play, so I strongly encourage all parents, teachers, school faculty, students, and community leaders to unite together to create a world where bullying is a thing of the past."

In Washington, Beatty serves as co-chair of the Congressional Civility and Respect Caucus, alongside Congressman Steve Stivers (OH-15). The Caucus seeks to spread the message that people can disagree without being disagreeable. Since 2018, Beatty and Stivers have visited several Ohio-area schools and organizations to teach kids the importance of civility and respect in the classroom, online, and in the community.
