Beatty Calls Out Republican “Economic Squeeze” Agenda

Leads press call on report ahead of Trump’s latest Ohio campaign rally

U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) recently spearheaded a press call with national and local media in advance of President Trump’s October 12th “Make America Great Again” rally in Lebanon, Ohio. During the call, Beatty, joined by Congresswoman Marcia Fudge (OH-11), highlighted a new report showing 95% of hardworking Americans are reeling from the Republican economic agenda.

Most troubling, the report concludes:

  • 78 percent of full-time workers are living paycheck-to-paycheck;
  • real wages have fallen in Ohio under the Trump Administration;
  • 90 percent of stock market gains have benefited the wealthiest Americans; and
  • Republican-backed efforts at repealing the Affordable Care Act is causing healthcare prices to skyrocket.

“Americans want a government for the people,” Beatty said on the call. “They do not want more broken promises from Congressional Republicans or President Trump—especially when it comes to take-home pay, jobs, healthcare, and the economy.”

Wrapping up the call, Beatty urged Ohioans to hold the White House and Republican leadership accountable for their abysmal legislative record, including on their much-maligned tax bill—that study after study has shown overwhelmingly benefits the super-wealthy and well-connected at the expense of everyone else.

“Republicans promised everyday Americans a $4,000 pay raise when the GOP tax bill became law. Instead, the vast majority of tax cuts have been used to buy back stocks and reward shareholders.” Beatty continued, “Republicans and Trump are trying to distract voters by focusing on the stock market and the wealth of big corporations. Democrats on the other hand are working ‘For the People,’ and lifting up voices and stories of the hardworking Americans that the President and the Republican-controlled Congress have forgotten.”
