Congresswoman Beatty Visits the Veterans Services Commission at Vets Memorial and Addresses VA Backlog

(Columbus, Ohio) – On Wednesday, May 29, 2013, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) will tour the Veteran Services Commission Claim Center at Vets Memorial in order in honor of Memorial Day.

Rep. Beatty, who considers veterans’ issues to be among her top constituent priorities, was accompanied by three Central Ohio veterans as she toured the Franklin County Veteran Services Commission.  During her visit, Rep. Beatty participated in discussions regarding the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs disability claims processing backlog, outreach to veterans in the third congressional district, and her office’s participation in the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project.

Prior to the tour, Rep. Beatty met with Franklin County Veteran Services Director Douglas Lay, and John Warrix, Assistant Director of the Franklin County Veterans Service Commission, to discuss the critical issues facing Central Ohio veterans.  The day concluded at Veterans Memorial where Rep. Beatty took questions from the media and veterans.

“We need to stand up for the men and women who have served and protected our great nation.  I have met with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Eric K. Shinseki, to voice my concern about the state of the significant delay of the current disability claims processing, resulting in a tremendous backlog.  I look forward to working with the agency towards a resolution.  I also welcomed the opportunity to meet with the Veterans’ Services Commission to learn about their efforts and the many quality resources they provide to veterans and their families and survivors. ”
