Congresswoman Beatty Continues Fight to Protect Americans Preexisting Conditions
Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Protecting Americans with Preexisting Conditions Act, H.R. 986, by a vote of 230 – 183. After the vote, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:
“No one should be denied healthcare coverage because of a preexisting condition, and House Democrats took an important stand to protect Americans living with preexisting conditions by passing the Protecting Americans with Preexisting Conditions Act. Some ten years after enactment of the Affordable Care Act, Republicans continue to use every tool at their disposal to dismantle the landmark law, jeopardizing the well-being of more than 130 million Americans living with preexisting conditions. That is why I joined my fellow Democratic colleagues to rescind the Trump Administration’s decision authorizing States to sell ‘junk’ insurance plans that do not meet minimum coverage requirements, including guaranteed healthcare for people with preexisting conditions.”
According to reports from the Center for American Progress, ongoing Republican efforts to eliminate protections for Americans with preexisting conditions threaten the healthcare and financial stability of more than 4.8 million Ohioans, including 626,200 children, as well as countless women and girls, 50 percent of whom are estimated to have preexisting conditions.
