The Beatty Weekly Wrap Up | June 21st - June 27th
The American Rescue Plan—passed by Congressional Democrats and signed into law by President Biden—is continuing to meet the moment for my constituents and our community.
To help spread the message, I held a June 24th press conference, at the Brightside Academy on Cleveland Avenue, to ensure families in Ohio’s Third Congressional District are aware of upcoming advance monthly payments of the Child Tax Credit (CTC). The expanded CTC will help set America’s children up for success and put more money in the pockets of hardworking parents to pay for childcare or put gas in the car, so that they can go to work and help fuel our economy while building better lives for their families.
On July 15th, families will begin to receive CTC monthly payments through December, but it is imperative that families file a 2021 tax return—no matter their circumstances—to guarantee they receive the full financial support they are entitled to under the American Rescue Plan.
Continuing to drive home the message on the American Rescue Plan, I joined U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Marcia Fudge the very next day for the We Can Do This Ohio Bus Tour. During our drive across the Buckeye State, we visited several Central Ohio small businesses to encourage individuals to get vaxed-up and stopped by Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s vaccination site. Later in the afternoon, Secretary Fudge and I participated in a roundtable with city, county, and state officials to discuss the need for repairing our roads, bridges, and highways as well as investing in ‘human infrastructure’ like affordable housing, childcare and eldercare, and anti-hunger initiatives to name a few.
In the weeks ahead, Congress is very likely to vote on a bipartisan infrastructure proposal and additional bills that put the American people first. Please know I will keep your family, friends, and you at the front of my mind as the work continues to build back better.
