Congresswoman Beatty Recognizes the 53rd Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid

Beatty is Vice-Chair of the Democratic Caucus’ Seniors Taskforce and is a member of the Medicare for All Caucus

U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement in recognition of the 53rd anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid:

“In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the Social Security Act, which created Medicare and Medicaid—two vital programs that have been protecting the health and well-being of millions of Americans for over 50 years.

Though Medicare and Medicaid initially provided much needed access to healthcare, they have changed over the years to provide even more Americans with access to high-quality, affordable healthcare.

As Vice-Chair of the Democratic Caucus’ Seniors Task Force, I am fighting to protect the benefits that seniors worked hard to earn and I am committed to strengthening and expanding Medicare and Medicaid. Fifty-three years later, Medicare and Medicaid continue to save lives and provide the peace of mind that comes with access to healthcare and treatment.

In that spirit, as we look to the future to explore ways to keep Medicare and Medicaid strong, and as a member of the Medicare for All Caucus, I will continue to fight for a comprehensive system that guarantees all Americans can obtain affordable and high-quality healthcare.”
