Columbus Resident Insured Because of ACA to Join Beatty for Joint Address to Congress
Kevin Rhodes’ pre-existing condition made him uninsurable before ACA enactment
On Tuesday, February 28, 2017, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) will be in attendance for President Donald Trump’s Address to a Joint Session of the 115th Congress. This year, Beatty has invited Kevin Rhodes, a Resident of Ohio’s Third Congressional District, to join her to showcase the life-saving impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also commonly referred to as Obamacare.
Background
During his speech, President Trump is expected to discuss the future of the ACA—which Republican Leadership has pledged to repeal since enactment of the landmark law nearly seven years ago. Beatty’s guest, Kevin Rhodes, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 20, after falling into a coma. For years, Rhodes was unable to get health insurance because his pre-existing condition made him uninsurable. Now 43 years old, Kevin has had employer-based coverage for the last three years and no longer living in fear of financial ruin as a result of ACA enactment.
