U.S. District Court Rules In Favor of Democratic Process

Striking down flawed, disenfranchising directive

Columbus, OH - U.S. Congresswoman Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio's finding that the county board of elections must allow early, in-person voting on the Saturday, Sunday, and Monday before Election Day:

"The ruling to restore early in-person voting on the three days before an election is a victory for Ohioans and the democratic process. Residents of Ohio's 88 counties will have greater access to the ballot box to make their voices heard.

"Election after election, Ohio's voters face long lines that require them to take time away from work and family, or miss the opportunity to vote because many just cannot afford the loss of time and income. We should be expanding access to the ballot box, rather than restricting it, as this is the most basic of American freedoms. While it is unfortunate that we must continue to use the courts to protect voting rights, I am glad that the district court ruled in favor of increasing ballot access and against a flawed, disenfranchising directive."
