Beatty Statement on House Republicans’ Budget

Republican Leadership releases budget; includes an extreme $6.5 trillion in spending cuts

WASHINGTON, DC – House Republicans released their long-awaited Fiscal Year 2017 (FY2017) Budget Proposal. In response, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

“Again, House Republicans are turning their backs on and failing hardworking American families. The budget proposed by the Republican Leadership will hurt early childhood education, infrastructure, jobs and the economy for millions of families by severely underfunding these critical areas. It does this by providing for the special interests of a few at the expense of the larger majority. It is Congress’ duty to craft a budget that reflects the shared values of all Americans. I will do everything in my power to pass a federal budget that protects the people and families who make our country great.”

As proposed, the House Republican FY2017 Budget Proposal will slash federal funding by more than $6 trillion and unfairly targets critical investments in a number of federal agencies, programs and initiatives.
