Beatty's Statement on Trans-Pacific Free-Trade Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement on today's votes on the Trans-Pacific free-trade deal. Three measures were considered during the votes on the free-trade deal: Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) which failed to pass by 126-302, Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) which passed by 219-211, and the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act which passed by 240-190. Congresswoman Beatty opposed trade adjustment assistance (TAA), fast-tract authority (TPA), and the facilitation and enforcement legislation.

"The meager assistance offered to hard working Americans who will lose their jobs due to this free-trade deal is a clear abdication of our duties as representatives of the people. Thousands upon thousands of American families are counting on Congress to protect jobs and uphold the values our nation holds dear. As the daughter of a life-long union member father and a small business owning family on my mother's side, I know that we could have done better to produce a win-win for workers."
