Beatty Backs Bipartisan Opioid Bill Package

Democrats and Republicans join forces to address opioid addiction and abuses

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. House of Representatives passed overwhelmingly (400-5) a package of bills to tackle the growing opioid epidemic sweeping across the nation. After passage, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03), who supported the bill, issued the following statement:

“Every day, 78 Americans die from an opioid overdose,” Beatty said. “Today, Congress took an important first step in addressing the opioid epidemic affecting countless families and our entire country.” Beatty continued, “However, I urge Republicans to join with Democrats to provide the desperately needed resources for opioid treatment and prevention.”

The Bipartisan Opioid package consists of 18 bills that each passed the House earlier in the week, but did not include new federal funding to effectively implement the programs detailed in these bills or expand access to substance abuse treatment.
