Beatty Aces 2015 NEA Report Card

Congresswoman gets top marks for dedication to students and teachers

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) was awarded an “A” rating on the 2015 National Education Association (NEA) Congressional Report Card. Beatty’s score is the highest possible and is based on her support for critical education initiatives.

“All students deserve a quality education, and for nearly 150 years, the NEA has worked to fulfill our nation’s promise to prepare students for the classroom and life,” Beatty said. As the member of Congress proudly representing Ohio’s Third Congressional District, I represent some of the finest teachers and hardest working students in the country. However, I know they need more support, and that is why this is one of my top priorities” Beatty continued. “I thank the NEA and commend the organization for its ongoing work to improve education standards across the country.”

In 2015, Beatty introduced the Reimburse Educators who Pay for Academic Year (REPAY) Supplies Act of 2015, H.R. 2692. On December 17, 2015, the bill’s language to permanently extend the Educator Expense Deduction available to teachers for money spent on out-of-pocket supplies was adopted in a bipartisan tax package, the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015 (PATH Act), and signed into law in P.L. 114-113.

The NEA’s announcement comes on the heels of the Columbus City School System being named among the top 15 school districts in the country. For 2015, Columbus City Public Schools were ranked 11th nationally by the Brookings Institution’s Education Choice and Competition Index, an annual guide on the nation’s largest school districts.
