April 20, 2016

Award recognizes Members of Congress working to advance equal justice for all

WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) was presented the prestigious Justice Award. Each year, the American Bar Association (ABA) honors select Members of Congress with the Justice Award for their commitment to ensuring that our nation’s judicial system is fair and equitable toward all people.

“All Americans have the fundamental right to be treated equally,” Beatty said. “Unfortunately, many Americans believe the deck is stacked against them in the eyes of the law. I refuse to give up on the ideal of equal justice under the law.” Beatty continued, “That is why I pledge to continue working in Congress to address and remedy the real and systemic injustices within our legal system, especially reforming the school to prison pipeline and creating equal access for the disenfranchised.”

Since 1998, the Justice Award has been presented to 78 Members of Congress. Today, the Justice Award is given annually to a bipartisan group of legislators for their support of issues important to the legal profession and the administration of justice.
