Congresswoman Beatty Recognizes Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day

January 27, 2017 is Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Awareness Day, a national initiative to raise awareness on the benefits of the EITC and to ensure individuals who qualify for the EITC claim the valuable tax credit. To mark the occasion, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

“The EITC is one of the most successful anti-poverty federal government initiatives. In fact, last year alone, more than 900,000 Ohioans claimed the EITC, receiving an average credit of over $2,400. Yet 1 in 5 Americans, including far too many in the Buckeye State, do not claim the EITC because they are unaware they qualify. That is why EITC Awareness Day is so important—we need to make sure every taxpayer and working family that is EITC-eligible claims it.
Not only do we need to raise awareness on the EITC, moreover, we need to strengthen it. So, I am proud to support proposals that will do just that, including expanding EITC benefits for millions of childless workers.”
