Beatty Statement on National Homeownership Month

June is National Homeownership Month (NHM), an annual opportunity to recognize the significant benefits of homeownership and the resources available to help more Americans become homeowners. As a Member of the House Committee on Financial Services' Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance and in recognition of NHM, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement:

"Owning a home has long been a cornerstone of the American Dream. Unfortunately, nearly a decade after the 2008 Financial Crisis, realizing the American Dream is still out of reach for too many Americans. That is why I have introduced legislation, the Housing Financial Literacy Act of 2017, H.R. 851, which will help make homeownership a reality for more working families by giving first time homebuyers who complete a Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-certified housing counseling course a discount on their Federal Housing Administration (FHA) mortgage insurance premium of 25 basis points (0.25 percent)."

During NHM, be sure to show your support and join the conversation online by using #HomeownershipMonth.
