Beatty Outlines Federal Budget Priorities for FY2017

Urges targeted investments in health, housing for veterans, and public finance

Washington, D.C. – This week, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) testified before the House Committee on the Budget to highlight crucial areas of investment needed in Ohio’s Third Congressional District and the nation.

At this week’s hearing, Beatty called on her colleagues to sustain robust funding for the National Institutes of Health, to support programs that provide housing for our veterans as they transition back to civilian life, and to increase federal funds for the Department of Treasury’s Office of Technical Assistance (OTA). The Office provides public finance ministries and central banks in developing and emerging nations with the much-needed tools to better manage public finances and improve financial safeguards.

Beatty has been an outspoken advocate on these issues during her time in the U.S. House of Representatives. This Congress, she introduced H.R. 2522, the Homeless Veterans Welcome Home Act, which would direct the Department of Veterans Affairs to establish a pilot program to award grants for providing furniture and other household items to homeless veterans. Beatty has also held discussions with constituents and stakeholders to develop solutions to the Somali remittances crisis. Ohio’s Third Congressional District is home to the second largest Somalian constituency in the country. Learn more by reading Congresswoman Beatty’s recent press release.
