Beatty Opposes Seriously Flawed Keystone XL Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) voted against a seriously flawed legislative proposal that would grant a regulatory earmark to TransCanada, effectively exempting the Keystone XL Pipeline from all federal permitting requirements. The legislation, H.R. 5682, To approve the Keystone XL Pipeline, passed by a vote of 252-161.

"Whether it is a lack of U.S. steel used in the construction or the lack of Ohio jobs created by the project, this legislation does not work for Central Ohio," said Rep. Beatty. "We should focus on developing domestically produced energy as we transition away from energy sources that cause irreparable climate change and fail to create meaningful American jobs."
